Guandu Temple holds Dipper Rituals twice per year. To celebrate the feast day of the Heavenly Consort on the 23rd day of the third lunar month, ‘Grand Dipper Ritual to Protect the Country and People’, also known as ‘Spring Worship of the Dipper Ritual’, is held every spring. ‘Mazu’s Attaining of Enlightenment and Worship of the Dipper Ritual’ is organized every autumn. Highly respected religious specialists will be invited to chant and send blessing during the nine-day occasion.

Worshiping Dippers’ is a chief ceremony in Taoism, which is an usual rite to achieve good health and longevity. Dipper decides fortunes of the world. It is considered that all creatures have their own Dippers, so health of human beings rely on starlight. If a believer sincerely worships Dipper and do good deeds, s/he could achieve blessing and longevity.
Dippers’ mean ‘stars’. The lamp in Dipper (also known as ‘Lamp of Human Spirit’) is the symbol of the source of human spirit. Worshiping Dippers is worshiping one’s own Spirit and encourage oneself. Highly revered religious specialists will be invited to Guandu Temple to hold various sacrificial rites as part of the ritual. Dipper is a slightly preternatural ceremonial object, which could ward off calamities and send blessing.
In ‘Spring Worship of the Dipper Ritual’ and ‘Autumn Worship of the Dipper Ritual’, religious specialists would light up the lamps of believers’ Dippers. A main Dipper represents the lives of the inhabitants in that area; each Dipper of the head of a line represents the lives of the whole family. They are used to ward off calamities for worshippers and send blessing. Each Dipper of the head of a line is deeply blessed by deities; they may be given safety and peace of the whole country/family and success in business.
